Coming up with improvements...

So. I've learned that when running a product, especially something like a mobile app, ensuring that you are always improving and making your product more enticing is crucial. Gaining users is amazing and is definitely always a thrilling moment. But for every user gained there comes a responsibility, keeping them engaged. After all, the true value of a product is not by how many people buy it, but rather how many use it.

Although BOLT has thousands of actively participating users, ensuring that their love for the platform stays and spreads can only be done through improvements. There is always some area or aspect that can be improved to make BOLT more interesting for more groups of people. For instance, recently, in order to make posting even more spontaneous and easy, we launched an inbuilt BOLT camera with a new interface for creating a post. Just changing the design or order in which things are presented can make a difference.

Making that was truly enjoyable as it was a feature I came up with and was exciting to create. However, then comes industry standards. Features like saving passwords via Apple Keychains to allow users to autofill their passwords and other small standard features needed to be added to ensure our users have the best possible experience. I'm not going to fake it and say that it was enjoyable, it was frankly quite boring to sit and code something in every single major app out there. But, thankfully, it was recently finished and deployed.

Lastly, the most demanding part of improving your product, to me at least, is coming up with ideas. Once you create something you love, you often don't immediately think about things you can change. However, I found it useful to give your product to someone who has never used it before and just watch them use it. See what someone who hasn't spent weeks building the app feels. Then just sit and think about why you built what you did, and what is your goal, and then the ideas just come to you. I quickly jot everything down and eventually cross out 99% of them, but 1 usually makes sense and ends up being exactly what I was looking for.

And yeah, that is it what I've learned when it comes to implementing and creating improvements in a product.
